Dear brothers and sisters, 
after our great Pope, John Paul II, 
the Cardinals have elected me, a simple, humble worker in God's vineyard. 

사랑하는 형제 자매 여러분,
교황 대(大) 요한 바오로 2세 후임으로 
추기경들은 나를 주님의 포도원에
보잘 것 없고 미천한 일꾼으로 뽑았습니다.
I am consoled by the fact t
hat the Lord knows how to work and how to act, 
even with insufficient tools, and I especially trust in your prayers. 

주님께서 (나와 같이) 불충분한 도구로도 
일하시고 행하실 수 있다는 사실이
내겐 위안이 됩니다.
그리고 무엇보다도 나를 여러분의 기도에 맡깁니다.
In the joy of the resurrected Lord, trustful of his permanent help, 
we go ahead, 
sure that God will help. 
And Mary, 
his most beloved Mother, stands on our side. 
Thank you. 

부활하신 주심의 기쁨 안에서, 
그 분의 영원한 도움을 믿으며 
우리는 앞으로 나아갈 것입니다. 
주님은 우리를 도우실 것이며,
성모 마리아께서 우리들 곁에 계십니다.
